We officially started our entrepreneurial journey one month and ten days ago at the Workhouse Cafe, not knowing what to fully expect. None of us had ever launched a bricks & mortar business before, so we knew there would certainly be challenges and lots to learn.
The problems have indeed come thick and fast. Overflowing toilets, internet downtime and even a robbery on the day of our inauguration have been a few of the highlights from our first month in business.
It seems that you can always try to prepare for the worst and yet there will still always be a surprise waiting for you. Each setback has been overcome and whilst they are frustrating when they happen, I do think they have served a few purposes. They are helping us to improve our business, to gel as a team and even to form closer relationships with some of our customers. Not everyone has been impressed with some of our teething problems and we have undoubtedly lost customers in the last couple of weeks, but I imagine every business goes through this when the doors open for the first time.
The important point for us now is to ensure we improve in every way possible, to work even harder and to delight the customers that stay with us. We will never get it right every day, but we are confident that if we continue to seek perfection and remain attentive to small details, that we will not fall far from our goals. The enemy of all businesses is complacency and we must not fall victim.
The most inspiring thing about the first month has been the positive customer feedback we have received. Many have said they feel welcome at the Workhouse Café, that a space like ours was really needed in Nice and that we have great coffee. Many people have come in to try the brunch, the cakes and the coworking space. Overall people really like the atmosphere and they feel like we care, which we do.
We would like to say a special thanks to “Vitae-Juice” and the “Worders” team who have joined our coworking space as permanent members. They have taken the plunge with us and we will do all we can to help them as they continue their own entrepreneurial ventures. We see common characteristics within the entrepreneurial community. There is determination, motivation and spirit in abundance, but moreover we see people that want to do something great, to be part of the community and to have fun whilst working. We personally want the Workhouse Café to become synonymous with entrepreneurship.
Thanks to our customers, our staff and our suppliers for the first month. Let’s make things better!!
